Kohima, Jan. 7 (EMN): Leader of Naga People’s Front (NPF) legislature party and co-chairman of UDA government, Kuzholuzo Nienu, on Saturday said Nagas need to be wiser than to be clever so as to bring about changes in the society.
He stated this while addressing the 75th years anniversary of the Western Angami Students’ Union (WASU) as the special guest held at WAPO ground in Sechü (Zubza) hosted by Sechü (Zubza) Students’ Union under Kohima district. Nienu asserted that corruption cannot be wipe out at any cost even if new politicians come with such promises saying that would be only “white lies.” He, therefore, told the people not to believe on such people as they could turn out to be ‘most corrupted.’
“If ever NPF gets a chance to form the government, we will certainly cut down corruption and change the system,” Nienu said. He added that NPF was committed to curb corruption and revamp the governing systems to bring about transformation in the society. He went on to state that Nagas need God fearing leaders with principle and integrity.
The legislator exhorted the students not to let their failures define them but teach them to strive harder in order to achieve success. He also advised the gathering to have a positive mindset for positive outcome in their lives.
Nienu also challenged the participants that the 75th years celebration should be an opportune time for everyone to retrospect and introspect the past and do better in order to bring laurels to Naga community as a whole.
In this regard, he made a reference to the Western Angami Assembly Constituency (AC), which has produced leaders such as AZ Phizo and A Kevichusa (first Naga graduate), who were the torch bearers of Naga political movement. He called upon the people of Western Angami area to strengthen their foundation be it Naga issue, education, Naga polity which their foregathers have laid.
Pointing out that students are the backbone of the society, he stated that good students are asset to the society while the bad become are liability. Nienu concluded by urging the students to give their best in studies and take things seriously in their endeavours so as to acquire quality knowledge.
The chief host of the event, Keneizhakho Nakhro, MLA and chairman of Kohima DPDB, said the occasion is a time to retrospect and introspect how far the union and its members have made progress over the years. He challenged the students to strive and be at par with the rest of the world to progress and compete.
Bisevi Nakhro, president of Angami Students’ Union (ASU), delivered greetings and paid homage to the pioneers and called upon the student community to renew their visions in their pursuit for excellence.
Kepelhoutuo Chüsi, president of Western Angami Public Organisation (WAPO), in his greetings, challenged the gathering to uphold the good values of the forefathers such as honesty and truthfulness.
Rokophrezo Rino, in his presidential address, challenged the gathering to strengthen the foundation and strive for truth and excellence with vision.
A song was presented by Sechu (Zubza) Students’ Union and a folk song was performed by Khonoma Students’ Union. The vote of thanks was proposed by Theyievilie Suohumvu, co-convenor of finance committee, and the programme was led by Khrielievi Chüsi, convenor of central organising committee.
On the occasion, Kuzholuzo Nienu also unveiled a monolith and released a souvenir in the presence of Keneinzhakho Nakhro and other government officials and Western Angami leaders.
