- DIMAPUR — The
Nagas living in Karbi Anglong have condemned the alleged aggression and
harassment perpetrated by the Karbi community by forcibly claiming ownership of
land belonging to them and destroying planted trees and other properties.
- Describing the act as ‘highly questionable, unjustifiable
and unacceptable,’ they have unanimously resolved to protect the rights of Naga
people at any cost and not allow to take place under any circumstance.
- The resolution to this effect was taken on Saturday during a
general public meeting held at Borlengri public ground, organised by the Karbi
Anglong Naga Union (KANU).
- Stating that the Nagas of Karbi Anglong, Assam, are law-abiding
citizens respecting and honouring the Article 244 (A) of the Indian
Constitution which safeguard the rights of the indigenous tribal people and to
preserve their cultural identity, the house resolved to defend any divisive
force or laws and asserted its stand that the Naga people would not be
subjugated.
- It added that the Naga people living in Karbi Anglong,
Assam, are in no way ‘encroacher’ as the land held by the Nagas were solely
purchased land. It, therefore, stated that the term ‘encroachers’ as alleged by
Karbis do not arise at all.
- The house further reaffirmed unflinching support and
cooperation to the leadership of Karbi Anglong Naga Union and expressed
optimism that land-related issue with the Karbi community would be resolved at
the earliest in the interest and common cause of the Naga people.
- An update from KANU stated that various Naga tribal leaders
including Joel Naga, president of RPP, and Kenilo Rengma, president of Rengma
Naga People’s Council, have delivered solidarity messages.
- The programme was chaired by Ralamo Lotha, KANU vice
president, while an invocation prayer was said by K Mahjih, pastor of Yimkhiung
Baptist Church Borlengri. It stated that KANU president, Anilo Rengma,
delivered the presidential speech, while Mhao Odyuo, KANU spokesperson,
highlighted on the purpose of the meeting.

general, KT Naga.
