Mokokchung, August 5: Executive Secretary of the Phom Baptist Church Association (PBCA), Nuklu Phom, pointed out remorse that ‘our wonderful minds are being hijacked by unfair election systems and money’ and he further cautioned that many more Nagas are going to be victims of this system.
The PBCA Executive Secretary was addressing a mammoth gathering of college students at Fazl Ali College on August 4 and combined students of People’s College, Law College Mokokchung and Jubilee Memorial College at People’s College premises on August 5 in connection with NBCC Clean Election Campaign.
Eleven member NBCC team led by Vikhuo Rhi, NBCC Youth Department, are currently touring Mokokchung for “Clean Election Campaign (CEC)” on August 4 and 5 reaching out to colleges and churches on the theme ‘The impact of our birthright.’ The NBCC team was joined by ABAM Youth Secretary, Toshi Sanglir, and ABAM Youth Promoter, Bendangsunep.Nuklu Phom also asserted that of all the beautiful things created by God, the mind is the most precious as it has the capacity to decide good and bad. He, however, lamented that the hearts and minds that God has wonderfully created have been given over to many things and attributed unfair elections as one of them.
The church leader also maintained that the campaign launched by NBCC was not about who is elected but the important thing is when we make a wrong choice it effects us and the system.
PBCA Executive Secretary also asserted that “by not talking or participating at clean election, then we are to say that we do not want to make a better Nagaland.”
Making a power point lecture, Nuklu illustrated the present scenario of Nagaland using sociologist approach. He explained that Sociologist looks at five different movements in any historical stages: First Stage- which starts with a vision, commitment and sacrifices of the pioneers; Second stage/ movement stabilizers: work on structures, office and developments; and the Third stage/ movement maintenance. He said during this third stage the systems are slow and the zeal is diminished. The Fourth stage/movement destroyer: Since in the third stage they lost the vision, they resist and revolt look for a change based on their life’s situation and the need of the mind; and the Fifth stage/ movement no movement: the vision is changed and the beginning has come to an end. It is on a completely differently direction.
Nuklu pointed out that the third and fourth stage are important as during this period there is a danger of secularisation and materialism. He said Nagaland today is at this juncture.
He said, “This stage demands new initiatives with the advancement of science and technology and also called the nuclear and cyber age. There is already an inclination and a tendency towards modernity yet our minds might not have been so civilized to catch up with the rest of the world, our systems are too incompetent, our structures are still underdeveloped and Nagas are very lazy.”
Principal of the People’s College, T Imlitoshi Walling, in his welcome speech, exhorted by saying that we should not blame anyone for the failure of the system in our State but ourselves. He also shared his view that when NBCC General Secretary said that NBCC had failed then all of us as Christian should take the blame since NBCC is the head institute of our Christian State.
As part of the NBCC Clean Election Campaign, the students were also invited to sign voluntarily on the Clean Election Pledged Card.
Later, NBCC team proceeded to Nagaland University, Lumami, for the same campaign.
