Dimapur, June 6 (EMN): Churches across Naga-inhabited areas have been urged to let its bell/chime ring for 60 seconds at 12 noon on June 13 to mark the 10th anniversary of the signing of the ‘Covenant of Reconciliation.’
According to a statement issued by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) on Thursday, the signing of the covenant by the top leaders of Naga political groups on June 13, 2009 had led to an end of factional killings and violence, which were “an everyday affair” back then.
“Although, a small beginning, citizens are witnesses to the positive steps our leaders have taken. While, the path ahead is still in construction, the memory of what was our past and a deep desire to move on in the direction of continual transformation is the yearning of all citizens,” read the statement.
Also, the forum has requested the churches to observe a brief moment of prayer for peace and reconciliation on Sunday, June 16.
Through these gestures, the FNR reasoned, “we are awakening our consciences and renewing our commitments to reconciliation and peace.”
