DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 9
IN a significant statement reflecting the growing anger against illegal immigrants, particularly against Bangladeshi nationals in Nagaland, the Western Sumi churches have warned the Nagas that they are on way to becoming ‘slaves’ to illegal immigrants in Nagaland and are no longer safe even in their own homes and land.
The WSBAK, the apex church representing Western Sumi churches, denounced a shopkeeper, one Abdul Basit, allegedly an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant of New Market who allegedly threatened a church couple, Pastor James Ngullie and his wife, on September 2.
The Western Sumi Baptist Church Association issued a statement on Tuesday making clear that an illegal immigrant threatening a citizen was an insult as well as threat to all the Nagas.
They should actually be showing respect toward the people of the land and make efforts to live in peace with the Nagas, the church stated.
The WSBAK further said that, if there is no security for Nagas in their own Land “where is the future of the Nagas?”
The church warned: “There is a chance that Nagas may soon become a slave to the immigrants in our own land who now fill their stomach from the bowls that we eat. If we don’t take steps and actions on such act we are actually encouraging them to continue such act. And when such act becomes rampant there will be chaos and social unrest.”
“So let us all be critical on such act and let us not remain silent. The voice that you give today is going to save the future of the Nagas. The move that you make today is going to save us from the clutch of the immigrants. Let us all be wise in this matter and see the peril ahead of us least we control it now. Let us all work together and put an effort to save our Land,” the WSBAK stated.
SOUDA appeals for stern action
THE Shena Old Union Dimapur Area (SOUDA) has strongly condemned the threat on Pastor James Ngullie of Dunamis Church and president of the Watchmen Team by one Abdul Basit, an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant who is a shopkeeper at New Market, Dimapur.
“The very word illegal itself is enough to chase them off away from our land” said the release issued by SOUDA chairman Hetovi Achumi and general secretary Ghokheto Yeptho.
“Bangladeshi immigrants make residential proof, birth certificates and other document with the help of some gullible and ignorant GB’s/Chairman by bringing documents from neighboring states after which they acquire Indian citizenship,” added the release.
SOUDA also urged the district administration to be cautious while issuing ILPs “as the illegal immigrants after acquiring the ILPs stay for good in our land and commit unimaginable crimes against local people.”
The Union has appealed the concerned authorities to take proper action against the culprit, and further cancel his trade permit and deport him.
