Dimapur, Aug. 29 (EMN): The weekly Covid-19 sample positivity rate in Nagaland has come down to 2.3% from 4% in the previous week after week-on-week new cases decreased from 446 to 359.
At 6%, Mokokchung is the only district in the state with weekly positivity rate of more than 5%, according an update by the department of Health and Family Welfare.
Out of the 15,864 samples tested, which was highest number done in a single week till date, 359 returned Covid positive in the week ending August 28.
The department informed that five deaths – four in Dimapur 4, and one in Peren – were reported, compared to 15 deaths were registered in the week before. It added that 55 new hospital admissions were reported last week.
The weekly bulletin stated that “600 Covid-19 deaths have been confirmed in the state. Dimapur (365 deaths) reported 60% of all deaths, followed by Kohima (18%) and Mokokchung (8%)”.
It said that “99% of Covid-19 deaths in the second wave (March ’21 till date) are not fully vaccinated and 90% have not received even a single dose”. It went on to inform that 78% of positive cases in the second wave were unvaccinated and 14% of positive cases had received a single dose.
A total of 8.49 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered across the state till date with Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon and Longleng registering highest first dose coverage among eligible beneficiaries, it was informed.
Stating that main aim of vaccination is to break the chain between positivity and hospitalisation, the department said that vaccinated people still must wear a mask, follow hand hygiene and avoid crowded places.
