Dimapur, Feb. 16 (EMN): The number of job cards that were issued as part of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Nagaland is approximately 4.36 lakh while the number of active job card holders is 4.28 lakh according to recent updates.
The central share for Nagaland’s Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for the financial year 2019-20 was INR 29853.75 lakh while the state’s share was INR 3649.48 lakh.
The total fund availability was INR 41435.68 lakh while the fund that was utilised was stated at INR 40410.26 lakh, according to the annual administrative report for 2019-20 of the state’s Rural Development.
According to the report’s update on the status of the MGNREGA implementation during 2019-20 as on Jan. 29 2020, the approved labour budget was 125.5 lakh person days; the person days generated was 95.55 lakh person days; the percentage of person days that were generated was 76.13%.
The number of job cards that were issued was 4.36 lakh; the number of active job card holders was 4.28 lakh; the number of registered workers was 7.26 lakh; the number of active workers was 5.44 lakh, while the percentage of women’s participation was 35.03%.
Further, according to the annual administrative report for 2019-20, there are 74 rural development blocks in the state covering 1285 recognised villages with 2, 50, 315 rural households.
According to the status of work under the MGNREGA for 2019-20, the number of works that were taken up was 5940. The number of works that were completed was 1144 while the number of ongoing work was 4,796.
As part of the state-sponsored scheme of grants-in-aid to village development boards (VDB) which is one of the major state-sponsored programmes being implemented by the department through the VDB, there are 1285 VDB in the state with 2,50,315 taxpaying households, as per the report.
Funds from this programme were allocated on the basis of the number of taxpaying households at INR 1000 for implementation of developmental activities.
"This is the only programme which ensures the participation of womenfolk in the activities of VDBs by earmarking of 25% of the fund allocated to the village. Another 20% of the fund is also earmarked for youth programme in all the villages," it stated.
During the year 2019-20, fund amounting to INR 3500.00 lakh was proposed under the programme as fund allocation to the VDBs to take up income-generating schemes as well as infrastructure development in the villages. Release of the funds is being awaited, the report maintained.
For 2020-21 funds amounting to INR 4000.00 lakh has been proposed as part of this programme for allocation to the VDB, it was informed.
