The first Nagaland Music Industry Stakeholders Conclave is all set to take place on June 21, coinciding with the World Music Day at RCEMPA, Jotsoma in Kohima with theme “Music & arts to greater heights.” Being the first of its kind, June 21 is packed with three phases of programme altogether.
Addressing a press conference on Monday in Kohima, Hovithal Sothu, the Director of Music Task Force Project said that there is no other better day to hold the first ever stakeholders conclave than the World Music Day. Considering the fact that Nagas love music, the day will take place in a ‘grand way,’ he added.
The morning session starting 11 am would be dedicated to the conclave with Advisor of Youth and Sports Resources, Zale Neikha as the special guest. Dr Neikiesalie Kire, Advisor rural development and Lhouchalie Viya, secretary YRS will grace the concert and open Mic respectively.
Several workshops will be held in the afternoon session. The main purpose of the workshop is for the musicians to air out their joys, sorrows, dreams. It is a platform for them to share their challenges and also deliberate on ways how Music Task Force (MTF) can be of help towards taking forward the music industry in Nagaland, said Sothu.
The topic and resource persons of the workshop includes: Music education by Khyochano TCK, director or Music Academy Kohima; Choir by James Swu, Music director, Sümi Bapatist Church Kohima; Artist management by Theja Meru, member of Rattle and Hum Society; and Production by Atsung Jamir, proprietor of Audio Garage.
Third phase of the programme will comprise of Open Mic starting 2:30pm and concert from 5 pm onwards.
One of the MTF’s primary aim is to provide ‘a lot of platform to the young people.’ Hence, the Open Mic is dedicated to all interested singers and musicians to participate and expose their talents. The platform is open on the basis of first come first. The organisers have received quite a big line-up for that, Sothu said.
The MTF also had plans for Eastern Nagaland tour including Longleng, Mon, Kiphire, and Tuensang in the month of October, he informed. During the tour, the team will conduct workshops on sound managements, music training, vocal training etc., he said. Further, he hopes to conduct similar programme (music day) in all the districts in future and assured to do so.
The project director also expressed appreciation towards the initiative of the Musicians Guild Association’s celebration of the fourth World Music Day at The Heritage, in Kohima on the same day. He lauded the organisers for shouldering the responsibility by bringing a platform for the artists at their expenses.
A music donation drive will be initiated on June 21 in terms of music equipments and items to give to the less privileged music learners, during the Eastern Nagaland tour.
Meanwhile, mural paintings and artworks initiated by Project 72 hrs will also be displayed on the day as well.
Altogether 17 bands and 60 RJs will perform at the evening concert. The artists performing in the evening concert includes Methaneile, Trance effect, Tune up channel, Since 90s, The Teaspoon Project, Tetseo Sisters, Atsunglir, Abdon Mech, Asu Jamir, Gabby Pucho, Linthoi, Ronnie, LC Sekhose, Rugks, Otto, Moko Koza, Keneisenuo Sorhie, Bozio Neinu, Ayim Longchar, Gear Men Dudes, Music Academy Kohima, Jam Tree, Wild Choir, Madnug, Afang & Crew, and Kevin Lywait.
