
Dimapur, May 6 (EMN): The Senior Citizens’ Association Zhavame (SCAZ) held its first get-together on May 5 at Pame Tsüdu in Zhavame village under Phek district, which brought hundreds of senior citizens together living in different towns in Nagaland.
Addressing the gathering, former minister and executive advisor of Senior Citizens’ Association Nagaland (SCAN), Deo Nukhu, highlighted on the benefits that could be availed by senior citizens through various government schemes. He also emphasised that senior citizens deserve the highest respect in the society and cited examples of how the elderly are treated with respect in countries like Japan.
He further called upon the senior citizens of Zhavame to maintain good health.
In his greetings, Zao Krocha, chairman of Zhavane village council, expressed happiness on the first-of-its-kind event being organised for the elderly in the village and hoped that they would be blessed with good health.
P Paul Dukru, SCAZ advisor, also exhorted the gathering.
Other highlights of the event included opening prayer by Rev. Akha Shupao, pastor of ZBC, welcome speech by S Joseph Shupao, native song by Rapri Pohena, act of blessing by the oldest citizen of Zhavame - Sova Rhi, and benediction by Sarhünyi Krocha, catechist of St. Xavier Catholic Church, Zhavame.
