The Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress has condemned reported spurious liquor-related deaths and hospitalisations in Tuensang and urged a thorough investigation and stronger enforcement.
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC) has condemned the reported deaths and hospitalisations in Tuensang allegedly linked to the consumption of spurious liquor and urged the authorities to verify the reports and conduct a thorough investigation.
In a press release, NPYC president Herole Y expressed deep concern over the reports and called for swift action to identify the source, suppliers and entire network involved in the illegal liquor trade.
He pointed out that Nagaland is a dry state under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989, which prohibits the possession, transportation, sale, purchase, consumption and manufacture of liquor in the state.

Herole noted that the government had stated that the Act was introduced to reduce alcohol-related harm and protect public health. He questioned the continued availability of illegal liquor despite years of prohibition and called for greater accountability among those involved in its manufacture, transportation and sale.
The NPYC president urged the government to strengthen enforcement, improve coordination among departments and ensure immediate medical support for all affected persons.
“The government should not wait for another tragedy before taking action. The people of Nagaland deserve effective enforcement and greater accountability,” the release added.
