Dimapur, Feb. 28: Nagaland has been conferred with an ‘award of Recognition’ by the Computer Society of India for the year 2015-16, according to a DIPR report.
According to the report, this information was given by the commissioner and secretary of Information Technology and Communication, KD Vizo during a brief “facilitation programme” at the chief minister’s office on Tuesday.
“The commissioner and secretary, while addressing the programme stated that the CSI- Nihilent e-Governance Awards is (sic) given every year to outstanding performance in e- Governance. He explained that the award is given based on two broad categories, the state category and the project category.
“Citing reasons for getting the award, the commissioner and secretary further explained that Nagaland was the first in India to take over State Portal and State Services Delivery Gateway (SP&SSDG) core infrastructure project, Nagaland was the only state in India where the state IT department is running the State Data Centre without engaging private Data Centre Operator (DCO)”, the report read.
Nagaland is the only state in India where the state is acting as Service Centre Agency (SCA) without engaging private companies for running Common Service Centre (CSC) and now the state is ranked in No. 1 category in India in the e-District Mission Mode Project along with Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, it stated.
Vizo was also reported as saying that Nagaland is the first state in north east region to implement Aadhar based Biometric Attendance System. He also mentioned that the Award given by the Computer Society of India is the highest Award in the county by an NGO, according to the DIPR report.
A press release from the chief minister’s office also informed that the award was handed over to chief minister Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu on Tuesday in the presence of minister of Information Technology and Communication P Paiwang Konyak and chief secretary Pankaj Kumar.
It stated that the chief minister had congratulated the department of Information Technology and Communication for bringing laurels to the state of Nagaland. “He mentioned that by becoming the best performing state from among the north eastern states in the field of IT and e-Governance, is no doubt an important milestone.
“He further mentioned that in recent times the Department of IT&C had proved itself to be a performing Department. He expressed his happiness over the fact that the Department of IT&C is now in a position to attract the attention of even foreign countries”, it stated.
The chief minister was reported as saying that through proper use of Information Technology, Nagaland could be a model for other states to follow and “from now onwards the state government will be giving more importance for promotion of IT and e-Governance sector in the state.”
The DIPR report featured Paiwang Konyak as stating that though few in numbers, “the sacrifice and hard work made by the officers and staffs of the department is being recognized at the national level.”
Computer Society of India is the first and largest body of computer professionals in India. It was started on March 6, 1965 by a few computer professionals and has now grown to be the national body representing computer professionals. It has 72 chapters across India, 511 student branches, and about 100,000 members, the DIPR report stated.
