
Dimapur, Feb. 26 (EMN): Nagaland team was declared winner of the Eastern Regional Red Ribbon Club (RRC) quiz competition organised by the Nagaland States AIDS Control Society (NSACS) under the aegis of National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) on February 24 at Hotel Japfu in Kohima.
West Bengal and Manipur were declared as the 2nd prize winners due to a tie and Meghalaya won the consolation prize winner. Nagaland would take part in the national level along with the rest of the three regional winning states, an update from NSACS stated on Friday.
The competition was conducted on hybrid mode with the West Bengal team on virtual mode and the other three teams from Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland in physical mode. The participating teams were the winners of the two sub regional level RRC quiz competitions recently conducted.
Addressing the programme, Metevinuo Sakhri, IEC joint director, welcomed all the participating states. She mentioned that the Red Ribbon Club quiz competition was the brain child of National AIDS Control Organisation since 2020-21 for Red Ribbon Club members all over the country. It is being conducted out by various State AIDS Control Societies to actively engage the members of Red Ribbon Clubs (RRCs).
She further highlighted that the competition was planned at the district/ zonal level, state level, sub-regional and regional level and culminating at the national level.
Parul, NACO associate consultant (IEC&MS), who represented NACO as monitoring officer during the event, thanked NSACS for hosting the event and emphasised on the aim of the competition that was to actively engaged the Red Ribbon Club members and create awareness amongst the young people for HIV prevention.
Dr. K Vikato Kinimi, director of Health and Family Welfare and NSACS project director, stated that utmost care was taken to ensure the conduct of the competition in all fairness and sincerity. He also announced that NACO representative was the quiz observer and would give final judgement for any issues during the competition.
The competition had five rounds with the theme on HIV/AIDS, public health, current affairs, picture/ visual, and the passing round. Each round was named according to the unique identity of Naga traditional practices and culture such as Rhododendron round, Log Drum round, Morung round, Hornbill round and Naga King Chilly round.
