Nagaland wins Best State award in sericulture at CSB event; Chümoukedima, Vidima farmer also recognised.

DIMAPUR — Nagaland has been awarded the Best State award under the Mera Resham Mera Abhiman (MRMA) campaign during the 76th Foundation Day celebration of the Central Silk Board (CSB) held on September 20 in Bengaluru.
The award recognised the state’s achievements in promoting silk farming, particularly in the Eri silk sector, according to an update received here on Tuesday.
Chümoukedima district also received the Best District award for its contribution to sericulture. The district’s success was attributed to the collective efforts of the district staff led by District Sericulture Officer, Mayangjungla Walling, and Dr. Anil Kumar ST, Scientist-B from CSB.
In the individual category, Alonuo from Vidima village, Chümoukedima, was awarded Best Eri Silkworm Rearer for her long-standing contribution to silk farming. She was recognised for innovative rearing practices and efforts to educate fellow villagers on sustainable methods.
The awards were presented in the presence of Union Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh, officials from the Ministry of Textiles, CSB, and representatives of state sericulture departments, the update stated.
According to the department, the recognition highlights Nagaland’s efforts under the leadership of Sericulture Advisor, Imkongmar, and Director, Zachivelu K Dolie, in supporting farmers and promoting silk as both a livelihood and cultural tradition. The department further informed that steps are underway to expand training and marketing of silk products under the trademark “Naga Silk.”
