Nagaland: Veterinary officials visit NRC on Mithun

[caption id="attachment_259999" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Senior officials from the department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and ICAR on Mithun pose for a photograph on July 12.[/caption]   Dimapur, July 12 (EMN): A delegation of senior officials from the department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry led by Commissioner and Secretary, Alan Gonmei visited ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, on July 12. Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Director of ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, apprised the delegation that the Union Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Government of India, Giriraj Singh, during the last meeting on June 20 in Delhi, had directed the institute to develop overall livestock policy for the State with special emphasis on mithun and pigs. In the meeting, modalities for developing the livestock policy of the State including the strategies for augmenting the fodder production were discussed. It was agreed upon that a brain storming workshop would be conducted by ICAR-NRC on Mithun to deliberate on the issue during the 1st week of August 2019. The delegation later visited the Mithun Farm on their way back to Kohima. Dignitaries including Dr. Budhi Lama, Additional Director from the department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry; Dr. Kuokehebi Gwirie, Deputy Director from NLDB; Dr. Zawhel Mekro, Deputy Director (Pig); Dr. V Rutsa, Joint Director (Pig); and Dr. Kobu Khate, CTO and Farm in-charge ICAR-NRC on Mithun were present during the meeting. It may be recalled that on July 11, the delegation called on the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Giriraj Singh, wherein the Union minister has assured all out support for the development of Mithun in the State.
