
Resource persons and participants during the national
seminar on ‘Application of geospatial techniques for environmental
sustainability in northeast India” on March 17.
- DIMAPUR — The
Geography department of Nagaland University (NU) conducted a two-day national
seminar on “Application of geospatial techniques for environmental
sustainability in northeast India” on March 17 and 18.
- An update from NU stated that Prof. BS Mipun, retired
professor of NEHU and currently serving as the dean of RSEES and DSW at the
Assam Royal Global University, delivered the keynote address on the topic
“Application of geospatial technology for effective sustainable development
strategies.” He stressed that geospatial technology, a powerful tool, has
immensely helped in monitoring the environment efficiently.
- Prof. DK Nayak, also retired professor of NEHU and currently
serving as professor at the Assam Royal Global University, spoke on “The road
to sustainable development: limits to geospatial technology.” He stated that
geospatial technology has revolutionised the path to a sustainable future.
- The chief patron of the seminar was Prof. Jagadish Kumar
Patnaik, vice chancellor of Nagaland University.
- A total of 32 presentations were made over the course of two
days. There were 90 participants from across the country who took part either
in offline and online mode.
- In another programme, the Information Technology department
of Nagaland University, Kohima campus, in collaboration with the National
Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Kohima, launched
a five-day bootcamp on cyber security essential skills on March 17.
- The programme is designed to provide participants with
essential knowledge and hands-on experience in the field of cyber security,
equipping them with the skills necessary to address and prevent cyber security
threats in today’s digital age.
- At the inaugural function, Shanchamo Yanthan, assistant
professor of IT at Nagaland University, highlighted the growing significance of
cyber security in today’s digital landscape. He underscored the need for
individuals and organisations to understand the potential risks and take
necessary precautions to protect their information and systems from cyber
threats.
