Officials inspecting the photography exhibition-cum-competition at the Nagaland University in Lumami headquarters on Friday.


DIMAPUR — The Journalism and Mass Communication department of Nagaland University (NU) hosted a photography exhibition-cum-competition on the theme "Through the lens: Capturing moments" at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall on Friday with its COE, Yarenthung Ezung, as the chief guest and Subhamoy Bhattacharjee, an independent photojournalist, media educator and researcher, as the guest speaker.


Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest encouraged the department to make the programme a regular annual feature. Citing a phrase that picture speaks thousand of words, he expressed delight and eagerness for the programme and future photography opportunities.

Also speaking on the occasion, the guest speaker traced the beginning of photography to the cave arts and expounded on the developments right up to the contemporary world. He stated that photography has changed the mindset of people, exploring the world with different emotions.


“In today's changing world, photography has become an important tool of communication with significant contribution both in time, life and national geography,” Subhamoy Bhattacharjee said. He added that photography has also evolved with the development of science and technology with the latest addition being AI posing significant challenges for photographers.


Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Arjun Das, head of Journalism and Mass Communication, spoke on photography arts and how it brought many people together from different states showcasing their cultures and skills.


The event also saw a musical performance by Deisica Snaitang and Deiphibanniewkor Babai.


The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Wapangsungla from the department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
