Nagaland University observed World Photography Day with an exhibition, photography competition, and expert lecture.

DIMAPUR — To mark World Photography Day, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Nagaland University organised a photography competition and exhibition at the administrative block on Wednesday.
According to an update, the guest speaker, Anutosh Deb, discussed the journey of photography from early cameras and film photography to modern digital cameras and smartphones. He also highlighted how technological advancements and social media have transformed photography and increased its influence on society.
Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University Jagadish Kumar Patnaik highlighted how photography has evolved from traditional cameras to smartphones and social media, becoming a powerful tool for communication and influencing public opinion. He also highlighted its role in preserving history, documenting society, and bringing important stories to the public.
Delivering the welcome address, Assistant Professor Dr. Arjun Das highlighted the importance and evolution of photography as a powerful medium of visual storytelling.
Declaring the winners of the photography competition, Public Relations Officer of Nagaland University Peter Ki highlighted the power of photography by referring to the famous "Napalm Girl" photograph from the Vietnam War. The image showed the suffering caused by war and had a strong impact on American public opinion.
Following the formal programme, the photography exhibition was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Patnaik. In attendance were deans, statutory officers, heads of departments, faculty members, administrative officers, and students.
