Nagaland University announced the launch of its new postgraduate programme in Rural Development & Management under Department of Rural Development and Planning

DIMAPUR — Nagaland University (NU) announced the launch of its new postgraduate (M.A) programme in Rural Development & Management under the Department of Rural Development and Planning (RDP).
The academic initiative, approved in the 40th Academic Council, is aimed at building a cadre of professionals equipped to address the pressing challenges and opportunities in rural areas, especially in Nagaland and the North-eastern Region, the university stated in an update.
Prof. Dipak Sinha, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Medziphema Campus, Nagaland University, assured all possible support for successfully running of the programme. Prof. B Kilangla Jamir, Dean, School of Social Science, congratulated the department for starting a new course.
Vice-Chancellor of NU, Prof. JK Patnaik, said that the programme is a significant step toward the university’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and addressing the critical developmental needs of rural and tribal communities.
By integrating theory with practical engagement, the course is designed to build a dedicated cadre of professionals and changemakers who can contribute meaningfully to rural development, governance, and sustainable livelihood initiatives in Nagaland and beyond.

“With over 70% of Nagaland's population residing in rural areas, the importance of planned rural transformation has never been more critical. The newly launched programmes will offer students an in-depth understanding of rural economy, governance, social dynamics, natural resource management, and the planning and execution of development schemes,” it stated.
Key features of the programme:
Interdisciplinary curriculum blending theory with field-based learning; focus on planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of rural development initiatives; strong career pathways in government, NGOs, academia, and entrepreneurship; and opportunity to contribute directly to the development of tribal and rural communities
Eligibility: Graduates in B.A, B.Sc., B. Com., BBA (excluding language subjects) with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible for the PG programme.
Relaxation is provided for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates. Students from colleges affiliated to Nagaland University are given a 10% bonus weightage. The intake capacity is 20 seats (PG).
