Nagaland University inaugurated the permanent School of Engineering and Technology building at Kohima Campus, Meriema, marking a major milestone for the institution.

DIMAPUR — A permanent six-storeyed building of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at Nagaland University (NU) Kohima Campus, Meriema, was inaugurated on Thursday, while multiple institutions across Nagaland observed academic and co-curricular events.


Permanent home for SET


According to a press release issued by the university, the inauguration of the SET building was marked by the unveiling of a monolith and a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Vice Chancellor Jagadish Kumar Patnaik.

Speaking on the occasion, Patnaik recalled the 31st foundation day, which was observed on September 6, 2024, when SET was officially welcomed to the Kohima Campus after spending 17 years in a temporary building in Dimapur. He noted that, specifically one year later, the school’s permanent building has been completed.


The construction of the building began in June 2023 and was completed at a cost of INR 21.8 crores under the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA), with a total area of 5,924 sqm. It will accommodate one department per floor with 25 rooms each.


Motivational session at Eden HSS


Eden Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, held a motivational interactive session with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang.


According to an update, Dr. Chang encouraged students to cultivate a positive attitude, seek God’s guidance, and adapt to changing employment scenarios by exploring opportunities beyond government jobs, including private sectors and entrepreneurship.


He also warned against excessive mobile phone usage and its adverse effects on health and learning capacity.


Oriental College signs MoU


Oriental College, Kohima, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nune’s Construction, Vision Trinity Club, and Kekhrie Krotho on September 3 in Kohima to promote collaboration, internships, and skill development in event management, office assistance, and entrepreneurship.


The MoU, signed by Principal Dr. Watinaro Longkumer and Nunese Sale, CEO of Nune’s Construction, chairman of DCCTI, chief event manager of Kekhrie Krotho, and president of Vision Trinity Club, also allows co-organisation of events in arts, culture, sports, and allied fields for the benefit of students and society.


Pre-Teachers’ Day at Modern HSS


Modern Higher Secondary School marked its pre-Teachers’ Day on Thursday with a programme in the school auditorium, where students honoured their teachers with songs, speeches, prayers, gifts, and performances.


Principal A Nenia Theresa lauded the teachers’ selfless service in moulding future generations.


Freshers’ day at Don Bosco College


Don Bosco College Kohima held its first MA freshers’ day on September 2 to welcome postgraduate students of History and Sociology.


N Venuh, pro-vice chancellor of NU, Kohima Campus, attended the occasion as special invitee and urged students to approach studies with seriousness while being cautious of misleading content on social media.


The event featured speeches, cultural performances, and addresses from faculty and students.


Phonetics workshop by Ministers’ Hill HSS


Meanwhile, Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, in collaboration with the Department of English, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, organised a one-day workshop for teachers on “The art of speech with phonetics in focus” at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, on September 3.


Viriekhono Keretsü from the Department of English, Kohima Science College, was the resource person.
