- DIMAPUR — A
two-day national seminar on "Infrastructure and sustainable technology
solutions: transforming agriculture, markets, and rural livelihoods,"
organised under the banner of Vision Viksit Bharat@2047, concluded at the
School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University (SAS, NU), Medziphema
campus, on Saturday.
- According to an update, the seminar, held from February 14
to 15 in hybrid mode, brought together academicians, experts, researchers, and
students.
- The valedictory session was attended by N Jacob Yanthan,
managing director and CEO of the Nagaland State Agricultural Produce and
Livestock Marketing Board, Chümoukedima.
- Speaking on the occasion, Jacob stated that organic produce
from Kiphire, Mon, and other districts reaches the AC market and is distributed
to other parts of the country.
- He noted that there is a huge demand for organic kiwi,
pineapple, persimmon, king chilli, ginger, rajma (kholar beans), and other
items, but production is unable to meet the demand. He urged the stakeholders
to assist in connecting the growers and linking their produce with the market.
- He lamented the improper pricing mechanism in the state,
with prices varying from district to district.
- Over the course of two days, five technical sessions were
held under various themes, and a total of 80 participants attended the seminar.
- The seminar commenced with the inaugural ceremony on
February 14, with Dr. Girish Patil, director of the ICAR-National Research
Centre for Mithun, Nagaland, as the chief guest.
- On the occasion, Dr. Patil highlighted the critical role of
sustainable technology and infrastructure in transforming the agricultural
landscape and empowering rural communities.
- In her welcome address, Prof. Akali Sema, pro
vice-chancellor of the School of Agricultural Sciences, NU, Medziphema Campus,
highlighted the importance of infrastructure and sustainable technology in
transforming agriculture.
