Kohima, Feb. 29 (EMN): The Tourism industry is one of the most promising and biggest industries in the world. This is a prospect that the Nagaland tourism sector should capitalise on, a Tourism department official has urged the government.
The director of Tourism, Akhale V Khamo told the state department of Tourism to take advantage of the prospect that the industry has and be enthusiastic about it considering that the chief minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio also is ‘seriously committed to the industry.’
Khamo was addressing the department’s officers, staff and a host of well-wishers during a farewell programme on Saturday that was conducted in the conference hall of the Tourism office. She will be retiring after 35 years of service.
She said that the tourism and hospitality industry is one of the fastest growing industries, and advised the department be enthusiastic about promoting it in the state.
“Hospitality management is one of the most complex and most rewarding careers and you’re not only delivering your service but you’re creating exceptional experiences for your clients,” Khamo said.
While urging them to explore the opportunities that tourism offers, she told the department staff to develop a positive attitude in their work to ‘get satisfaction, enjoy their work.’ She told them that ‘work is worship.’
Khamo also acknowledged the department’s officers and staff for the ‘diligent execution’ of their duties. She urged them to be ‘more hardworking’ as there is no end to learning.
The retiring director recalled her early years of service and the experiences that she had. She credited the milestones to the cooperation and efforts rendered by her colleagues.
The advisor for Tourism and Art & Culture, H Khehovi Yeputhomi, commended the service the retiring director had offered to the department.
He recalled his association with the official and credited the achievements of the department and success to her management, good teamwork and efficiency in delivering service ‘in the form of sincerity and creativity.’
The additional secretary for Tourism, Martha R Ritse also described the director as being an active, hardworking, determined person with a vast experience and exposure besides one who has a will to do things with dignity.
Other tourism officials also credited the success of the department to the leadership of the retiring official and that she was ‘cheerful, active, adaptive and resourceful.’
Another speaker, Veyielo Duolo, the deputy director of Tourism also attributed the success and achievements of the Tourism department to the leadership of Akhale V Khamo. The official highlighted the initiatives that were organised, besides informing that ‘the best employee of the year in tourism’ was also initiated by her in 2019.
