- KOHIMA — Director
of Tourism, Veyielo Doulo, on Saturday urged for initiatives towards protection
and preservation of the state bird Blyth’s Tragopan.
- He was addressing the celebration of the 42nd Club Day of
Tragopan Club Viswema (TVC) that was marked by the ninth Nagaland Open Pcheda
Championship and third Torü Ke-rha Championship at Watch Tower, R Khel Viswema
in Kohima district.
- As the name TVC suggests, he told the club to work for
conserving the state bird and as well as the rich biodiversity of the Southern
Angami area.
- He further encouraged the people of the area to come up with
eco-tourism activities including home-stays, tour operators and tourist guides
to enhance the economy. In this, Doulo assured of support from the department.
- Field Marshal Viraseto Neikha and Chieftain Zholesanü Pusa
shared the rules and regulations of Pcheda and Torü Ke-rha respectively.
- Pcheda and Torü Ke-rha are traditional Angami games. Pcheda
is a competition for males only where they have to throw thin dried bamboo
sticks from a distance on a solid mud platform. Torü Ke-rha is a group
competition among females.
