National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP) Phek has conducted an awareness programme on the harmful effects of tobacco and tobacco related products at Government Higher Secondary School, Phek, on March 10.
Dr. Reyosalu Lase Vizo, District Nodal Officer, Phek (NTCP), was the resource person. Through power point presentation she highlighted on the harmful chemicals contained in tobacco which causes cancer and are dangerous to health. She sensitized the students on the harmful effects of tobacco and the long run health consequences. She also presented the tobacco statistics of Nagaland where Nagaland has the highest percentage in consumption of smokeless tobacco and ranks 2nd in tobacco consumption.
The programme was attended by the school principal, headmaster, teachers and students. Leaflets on tobacco awareness were also given to all the participants.
