- KOHIMA — Nagaland
has been recognised as the leading state in implementation of Pradhan Mantri
Awas Yojona- Urban (PMAY) scheme among the northeastern state with an
achievement of almost 95%.
- This was stated by Zhaleo Rio, advisor of Municipal Affairs
and Urban Development, during the release of Coffee Table Book titled
“Transforming lives: A galance at PMAY (Urban) Mission in Nagaland, organised
by the department of Municipal Affairs on Friday at Hotel Vivor in Kohima.

- Rio recalled that the PMAY mission was launched on 2015 with
an aim to provide housing to the economically weaker sections people during the
period from 2022, which was extended to 2025.
- He reiterated that under the mission, the state government
got sanction for 29, 973 dwelling units. He informed that Nagaland achieved
construction of 27,806 dwelling units during the period amounting to 93%. He
added that the achievement rate particularly among the NE states was far more
the national level.
- “But nevertheless our achievement is very good and I am
happy to know that those beneficiaries are now having proper building units,”
he expressed.
- He also said that the coffee table book was a testament to
their achievement which the state is proud of. Rio cited that through this
scheme, an amount of INR 1.5 lakh was sanctioned to the beneficiaries and it is
individual led construction through subsidy or credit linkage, and thus
appreciates the beneficiaries saying that though the sanction is not very high,
they could take interest and come up with affordable pucca house.
- He also updated that soon the department will be entering
into PMAY housing mission 2 and informed that though they have covered about 32
statutory townships, the remaining seven townships will be in pipeline and they
hope to cover another 10,000 dwelling.
- Kekhrievor Kevichusa, commissioner and secretary of
Municipal Affairs, also shared that the coffee table book was an attempt to
capture the journey of PMAY Urban scheme that was implemented by the department
of Municipal Affairs.
