DIMAPUR — Nagaland is likely to experience humid and warmer-than-usual weather conditions over the next few days before an expected spell of heavy rainfall later this week, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In its national weather bulletin issued on Wednesday, the IMD stated that temperatures across parts of Northeast India remained above normal over the past 24 hours, even as rainfall activity is expected to intensify in the region.
The weather agency forecast scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on May 20 and 21.
It further warned of isolated heavy rainfall over Nagaland and neighbouring north-eastern states during May 22-26 under the influence of prevailing weather systems over the region.

According to the advisory, heavy rainfall may trigger localised flooding, water-logging in low-lying areas, traffic disruption and landslides in vulnerable and hilly regions.
The IMD also cautioned about possible damage to vulnerable structures, standing crops and horticulture due to heavy rain and gusty winds.
Residents have been advised to remain alert for worsening weather conditions and avoid areas prone to waterlogging and landslides.
It reminded that conditions are becoming favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into more parts of the Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions over the next three to four days.
