DIMAPUR — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of India, including isolated places in Northeast India, over the next six to seven days, with Nagaland also expected to receive significant rainfall activity during this period.
According to the district-wise weather bulletin for Nagaland, widespread rainfall and thunderstorms (76%–100% probability) are forecast for Kohima, Kiphire, Tuensang, and Phek between July 2 and July 4, while Peren is expected to witness widespread rain on July 4, continuing with fairly widespread rainfall until July 7.

Other districts including Dimapur, Wokha, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, and Longleng are likely to see scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and thundershowers, with varying intensities through the week. Mon district is expected to receive fairly widespread rain from July 2 to July 5.
The IMD attributed the prevailing weather conditions to a low-pressure area currently situated over Jharkhand, and a cyclonic circulation over Assam, which is enhancing moisture inflow across the eastern and northeastern regions.
Nationally, the IMD has warned of very heavy rain in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, with heavy rainfall also expected in central, eastern, and coastal regions including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Telangana.
Authorities have been advised to monitor river catchment areas closely due to potential flooding risks. The IMD also noted that while above-normal rainfall is expected in much of central India, below-normal rainfall is likely in parts of the northeast and some areas of the southern peninsula.
