Ngaland to host 22nd annual CPA Conference

  • DIMAPUR — Nagaland is set to host the 22nd annual Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-III conference in Kohima from November 9 to the 15th.

  • This was decided during the joint executive committee meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-III and the North East Regional Institute of Parliamentary Studies, Training and Research (NERIPSTR), which was held in Gangtok, Sikkim, on April 3.

  • An update from Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) secretary-in-charge and secretary of CPA India Region Zone-III stated that NLA Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer, presided over the meeting as its chairman and president. The session brought together the presiding officers of the eight north eastern states, accompanied by senior officials from their respective states.

  • Reports were presented by the commissioner and secretary of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, secretary of CPA India Region Zone-III and the additional director of NERIPSTR.

  • Following the reports, the chairman, with the consensus of the house, decided to form two subcommittees to advance CPA’s objectives.

  • It stated that the subcommittee-1 would be led by the Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly (vice chairman of CPA India Region Zone-III), along with the Speakers of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The subcommittee-1 would oversee workshops, seminars and other parliamentary initiatives to promote CPA’s vision in the region.

  • The subcommittee-2 would be headed by the Speaker of Sikkim, supported by the Speakers of Mizoram and Tripura. The subcommittee-2 would produce a bi-monthly newsletter detailing CPA and NERIPSTR activities as they forge ahead with their shared mission.

  • The members also discussed on fiscal measures to strengthen NERIPSTR’s operational capabilities.

  • The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Speaker of Sikkim.
