Nagaland to install Doppler Weather Radar at Dimapur College, boosting forecasting, disaster preparedness, agriculture support under Mission Mausam.

KOHIMA — Nagaland will get an X-Band Polarimetric Doppler Weather Radar at Dimapur Government College under the government of India’s Mission Mausam Scheme, following the signing of a 20-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the department of Higher Education and the India Meteorological department on Thursday.
The radar is expected to augment weather forecasting and agricultural meteorology in the state, enabling improved policy planning and enhanced public safety aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
The MoU was signed at the Directorate of Higher Education, Kohima, in the presence of Minister for Higher Education & Tourism Temjen Imna Along, Secretary Higher & Technical Education Sarita Yadav, (Ex-officio) Director of Higher Education V Lovitoly Sema, IMD representatives and department officials.
According to the MoU, the institutional collaboration will focus on urban meteorology, atmospheric sciences and mutually identified research areas. It is also expected to improve understanding of weather hazards specific to the Nagaland region and strengthen operational weather forecasting.
The MoU will take effect from the date of signing and remain valid for 20 years, subject to amendment through joint consultation between IMD and DHE.
