Nagaland athletes win 11 medals including six gold at the 1st Northeast Regional Muaythai Championship.
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Muaythai team secured 11 medals, comprising six gold, two silver, and three bronze, at the Northeast Regional Muaythai Championship 2026, held from September 21 to the 24th at R Dengthuama Hall in Aizawl, Mizoram.
The maiden edition of the four-day championship, organised by the Muaythai Association of Mizoram, brought together athletes from all eight northeastern states, according to an update.
The event featured around 350 fighters competing across approximately 100 categories, along with technical officials from across the region.
Among the gold medal winners for Nagaland were Lemnon L Konyak in the Under-24 48 kg category, Pikato Awomi in the Under-24 54 kg category, and Niuka Chophi in the Under-24 60 kg category. In the Elite division, gold medals were won by Aputo in the 48 kg category, Wapang Ao in the 51 kg category, and Emtiramok Amri in the 63.5 kg category.
Silver medals were claimed by Mangkhao T Konyak in the Elite 54 kg category and Manjei Konyak in the Elite 57 kg category.
Bronze medals were secured by Yumahang Limbo in the Under-16 57 kg category, Huka Ayemi in the Under-24 51 kg category, and Wangtah Konyak in the Elite 71 kg category.
Apart from the medal-winning performances, Phongmei Phom represented Nagaland in the Under-24 67 kg category.
The Nagaland contingent was led by National Coach Hemavi Ayemi, Team Manager H Pangmei Konyak, Team Coach Aboto Ayemi, Assistant Female Coach Aboli M Kinimi, and Referee and Judge Moakumzük Longchar.
The championship was inaugurated by Minister for Sports and Youth Services Lalnghinglova Hmar as the chief guest. The closing ceremony was attended by Chief Minister of Mizoram Lalduhoma.
