Nagaland students educated about impact of climate change on crops

[caption id="attachment_276509" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Students during the awareness programme on “Climate Change, Variability and Impact of Kharif Season Crops and Visit of School Students” conducted at KVK office Aboi and farmers’ field on October 11.[/caption] Dimapur, Oct. 11 (EMN): With an aim to educate young students about the possible impact of climate change on crops and biodiversity, an awareness-cum-sensitisation programme on “Climate Change, Variability and Impact of Kharif Season Crops and Visit of School Students” was conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Office Aboi and farmers’ field on October 11. This was informed by Dr Manoj Singh Sachan, asst. chief technical officer (plant breeding), through a press release on Friday. The programme was organised by KVK Mon under national innovations of climate resilient in agriculture-technology demonstration components (NICRA-TDC) in the presence of Hangpa Konyak and Pangnyei Konyak, teachers from Government Middle School, Ngangching village. The students were informed about the pressing issue of climate change, global warming and its impact of crops and livestock at the programme. It also brought to light ‘many resilient practices seen in farmers’ field as well as KVK instructional farm such as soybean (JS 335), paddy (direct seeding of rice), tapioca, large cardamom, nursery raising of winter vegetable crops, low cost poultry and pig demonstration units etc.’ Altogether, 51 school students and teachers from NICRA adopted village Ngangching attended the awareness programme.
