Dimapur, Dec. 16 (EMN): Borlengri Ao Students’ Union (BASU) in Karbi Anglong, Assam, celebrated its silver jubilee (1997-2022) on Friday at Borlengri Ao community ground on the theme “Tebenjem.”
Rev. Imchayanger, speaker of the celebration programme, shared that Mokokchung is known as the land of pioneers and was also among the first Nagas to receive education and Christianity. He advised the people to live by truth and honesty wherever they are and also work hard and persevere.
While pointing out that language and religion often defines identity, he stated in the case of the Ao, “Truthfulness and honesty are also a trait embedded in the Ao worldview.”
“This identity and worldview as professed and lived by our ancestors must be protected, practiced and sustained,” he maintained.
He further stressed that culture is not only singing and dancing but it is a conglomeration of many other things.
Speaking about balanced development, he stated that growth and development are often spoken about by politicians but human development is the most important of them all, while adding that economic development has to be balanced too.
He also expressed that the world is made not by revolution but by evolution of ideas. He advised that if parents want to have their children get a good and balanced education, they should upgrade their views and comprehend the standard of education.
“Grooming a child not only happens in schools, but it has to happen at home. So school learning and parental guidance should be balanced and go hand-in-hand,’ he added.
Further, he also shared that if there is no balanced development, even if one seems to get a good education, it will not be as productive. He also said that without human growth, there can be no material growth, and if the pursuit of material growth precedes human growth, there can be no development.
During the programme, the dedicatory prayer was led by T Apok Jamir, pastor of Borlengri Ao Baptist Church.
