Dimapur, Nov. 14 (EMN): Nagaland is still far behind other states in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). However, according to a DIPR report on Nov. 14, capacity building events such as a recent workshop about the SDG would add to the expertise of government workers to achieve stated goals, a minister said during the SDG-themed workshop in Kohima.
The minister was speaking at a valedictory function of a workshop ‘building capacities for taking forward SDG in Nagaland,’ was conducted at the capital town, on Nov. 14.
Minister of Planning and Co-ordination, Neiba Kronu said that the seminar was to build capacity of various departments in order for them to carry forward and achieve the goals of the SDG. He acknowledged the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for coming forward to impart the training to officials of the state government and also the National Institution for Transforming India (Niti) for ‘helping in various ways to carry forward the SDG in Nagaland along with the rest of the country.’
The legislator admitted that the Nagaland government was far behind other states in the implementation of SDG, the press release stated. Nonetheless, he hoped that the two-day workshop will be a brainstorming exercise and ‘lift the minds of the officers and the participants to bring the state at par with the rest of the country.’ He was stated to have encouraged the citizens ‘to join hands to achieve the SDG in order to bring our people to a better living standard.’
Various discourses about financial planning and resources, among others, were given by Special Secretary of the Finance department V Kenzo, and regional head of the UNDP John Borgoyary, the DIPR update added.
