Kohima, Aug. 30 (EMN): The department of Youth Resources & Sports have emerged the overall champion with 22 gold, 4 silver and 1 broze at the 32nd Nagaland State Taekwondo Championship organised by Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA). The championship which began on August 29, concluded at the IG Stadium in Kohima on Friday, August 30.
Kohima were the runners-up with 12 gold, 12 silver and 8 bronze while Dimapur bagged the third position by accumulating 11 gold, 13 silver and 9 bronze.
Tuensang with 6 gold, 4 silver, 7 silver; Phek (4 gold, 8 silver, 7 bronze); Nagaland Police (2 gold, 1 silver, 2 broze), and Peren (1 gold, 1 silver, 6 bronze) were placed in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th positions respectively.
Meanwhile, Mon with 1 gold, 1 silver was placed in the 8th position with Kiphire (1 silver, 1 bronze) in the 9th position and Longleng (1 silver) was placed 10th in the points table.
President of Nagaland Taekwondo Association, Pele Khezhie encouraged the players in the closing ceremony.
While congratulating the winners, he also encouraged the other players not to lose hearts for not winnig any medals and urged them to practice hard as they were enough rooms for improvement. He advised them to come with more preparations and practices in the next championship.
He reminded the players to keep up their achievement by emulating the same Taekwondo discipline to their friends, family, siblings and others after going back to their respective districts and places.
Khezhie also congratulated the 23 state referees for turning up to attend the referee seminar and to the players who successfully cleared the Black Belt promotion exam that was conducted as a prelude to the championship by the association.
The president said the days of misapprehension about the sport was over as active participation from not only the players but also from their family members could be seen.
He also mentioned about NTA’s effort in imparting Taekwondo training to the state government teachers under RMSA Project last year and termed it as an achievement of the association.
Khezhie further expressed his happiness that eight districts along with two other teams who turned up for the tournament while inviting the other three districts who could not participate, to make their presence felt in the next edition.
Altogether, 161 participants (104 males and 57 females) took part in the two-day tournament.
