Kohima, March 25 (EMN): After a gap of one year, students of St Joseph's College, Jakhama (autonomous) celebrated its 8th ‘Spring Fest’ on the theme 'Honoring roots.'
Addressing the students, the project director of Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), Hovithal Sothu, said that one should not be ashamed of their roots saying, ‘Like it or not, everyone has roots and one should honor them.’ He stated that people could honour their roots by inculcating good values of the culture and making them grow, while also leaving behind the bad practices of the culture. He told the students to transcend differences and live together in peace.
The project director also encouraged them to work hard to achieve their dreams and more importantly become good citizens and be an asset to society, not a burden.
He further wished them the best as they pursue their dreams in different areas of life.
The principal of St Joseph's College Jakhama, Dr. Fr George Keduolhou Angami, informed that the ‘Spring Fest’ is also the most powerful and significant platform to honour roots. He stated that without one's roots, there would be no tradition, no identity, and no culture. He went on to add that without roots, there is no stem, no branch, no flower, and no fruits.
"We are all for the heritage, today and tomorrow," he said.
Activities of the ‘Spring Fest’ included folk dance, ethnic fashion show, strongest Josephite, beat contest, cosplay, war cry and horn blow for on stage, while off stage activities included Naga wrestling, bamboo pole climbing, traditional go-cart race, tug of war, etc.
Currently, the college has 4228 students in total. The two-day programme would culminate on March 26.
