DIMAPUR — Sericulture department conducted training for farmers under Mera Resham Mera Abhiman (MRMA), a sericulture technology transfer campaign of the Central Silk Board (CSB), in Bade village under Chümoukedima district on Friday mainly focusing on host plant cultivation practices and management in Sericulture.


An update from the department stated that the programme was attended by Mayangjal Walling, district sericulture officer; Dr. Anil Kumar ST, Scientist-B; and Pete Medoni, supervisor and farm in-charge.


It stated that Dr. Anil Kumar has elaborated on the package of practices for castor cultivation, stressing the importance of selecting suitable varieties and following recommended practices right from land preparation to seed selection. He advised farmers to apply the correct dosage of fertilisers for optimum plant growth and strongly encouraged seed treatment prior to sowing to prevent pest and disease incidence.

It stated that Mayangjal Walling has explained the package of practices for Kesseru cultivation, emphasising timely planting, spacing and proper pruning methods to ensure steady leaf supply. She also advised farmers to use organic manures and stressed on the importance of maintaining soil fertility for long-term productivity.


Walling further encouraged farmers to adopt scientific technologies developed by the Central Silk Board, assuring that proper host plant management directly translates into better cocoon yield, higher profitability and sustainable income generation for eri farmers.
