KOHIMA — In an effort to raise awareness and prevent substance abuse among children, the directorate of School Education has mandated all middle, high, and higher secondary schools (both government and private) in Nagaland to establish PRAHARI Clubs.
This initiative is in line with the guidelines of the ‘Joint Action Plan on Prevention of Drugs and Substance Abuse among Children and Illicit Trafficking,’ developed by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and the Narcotics Control Bureau, government of India.
The notification to establish PRAHARI Clubs was issued by the principal director of School Education on January 22.
The PRAHARI Clubs, consisting of 20-25 students selected from Classes 6 to 12, will be supervised by a teacher-in-charge with a strong sense of integrity.
The clubs will carry out two awareness activities annually, and these activities may be integrated into the existing programmes of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The primary objective of the PRAHARI Clubs is to sensitise students about the harmful effects of drugs and substance abuse. Additionally, the clubs will focus on monitoring and reporting any suspicious drug-related activity within the school environment.
Members of the clubs are encouraged to share any information regarding drug or substance abuse with their teacher-in-charge, who will pass it on to the school head for appropriate action.
