
Dimapur, Oct. 18 (EMN): Sazolie College in Jotsoma held its annual cultural day on October 15, which was jointly organised by the cultural committee and students’ council of the college.
Warden of Rock Boys Hostel and the speaker of the event, Atho Yano, spoke on culture and how it shapes one’s identity, stated an update from the college. He stated that every culture instill certain moral values in people to become better human beings, to be responsible, to coexist with each other in harmony, and respect and honour one another.
The college principal, in his address, stated that that by coming to Sazolie College, all students and faculty members become members of one family. He stated that through the celebration of its annual day and performances, the college could achieve the objective of bringing about unity among all.
He added that as an institution, the college strives to incorporate traditional knowledge and wisdom into its learning system.
Highlights of the programme included traditional attire show of 15 tribes, various competitions, traditional games and feast. Different tribes presented varied items including folk dance on ‘The Gorkha’ by the united tribes, drama on ‘The origin of the bird hornbill’ by Sumi students, a folk song ‘Oh Hi Yo’ by Tenyimia students, ‘Lijaba and the beginning of Ao festival,’ a musical play by Ao youth, ‘Umei jawans (best season of life)” by Eastern Naga students, and a skit on ‘Lotha progenitor marriage system’ by Lotha students. It stated that Eastern Naga tribes emerged winner of the competition.
Traditional games such as war cry, beads game for women, and cock fight and tug of war for men were also enacted on the occasion, it stated.
