DIMAPUR — The Nagaland RMSA Teachers’ Association–2016 has announced an indefinite sit-in from September 8 at the Directorate of School Education, Kohima, over long-pending service benefits and dues.

In a press release issued on Sunday, the association stated that 367 teachers recruited under RMSA in 2016 were left with no choice but to resort to protest after the state government failed to implement benefits already adjudged in their favour by the Supreme Court.

The teachers informed that the demonstration would continue “without interruption” until their demands are addressed.

The protest, they maintained, would be peaceful and conducted in accordance with the directives of the deputy commissioner of Kohima.

The protesting teachers reiterated their three core demands: recognition of salary and service benefits from their original date of appointment in 2016; implementation of the ROP 2017 pay scale with annual increments at par with SSA-RMSA 2010–13 teachers; and enforcement of Office Memorandum No. AR-3/GEN-231/2011 dated March 29, 2017.

Terming the state government’s refusal to act as a “grave affront to justice and human dignity,” the association called on civil society, student unions, workers’ bodies and the general public to extend solidarity in their struggle for justice and accountability.
