
Dimapur, June 6 (EMN): To review achievements under New India@75 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the third state-level committee meeting was held on June 3 under the chairmanship of Amardeep S Bhatia, principal secretary of Health and Family Welfare department and chairman of Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS).
The committee reviewed activities conducted in eight HIV high prevalent districts namely Kohma, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Noklak, Phek, Peren, Tuensang and Kiphire, which were conducted in three phased manner on three themes of ‘HIV, TB and Blood Donation.’
An update from NSACS stated that the meeting was attended by representatives from the department of DIPR, Social Welfare, All India Radio Kohima (AIR), Doordarshan Kendra Kohima (DDK), Higher Education, Technical Education, NBSE, SCERT, Youth Resources and Sports and PIB Kohima.
It stated that the district-level committees were set up under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner in each identified district to carry out the activities.
The presentation on the overall achievements was made by Thejangunuo Theunuo, deputy director (IEC) of NSACS. During the presentation, it was highlighted that the campaign was carried out in three phased manners from August 2021 to March 2022 in the 75 identified schools and 75 identified colleges/ institutes/ higher secondary schools (the 75 number each in consonance with the 75 years of India independence) in the identified districts.
It stated that a total of 16,264 students (youth and adolescents) were covered through awareness programmes. It added that a total of 1212 students took part in the various competitions namely ‘Paint your thought,’ ‘Voice your thought,’ ‘Publicise your thought,’ and ‘Film your thought,’ wherein 479 students were declared winners.
The publicity campaign was supported by DDK, AIR, PIB and DIPR.
Meanwhile, Metevinuo Sakkrie, joint director (IEC) of NSACS, has thanked each district-level committee headed by the deputy commissioners for proactively carrying out the activities. She also thanked the members present for their support and coordination.
The concept of the campaign was an initiative of the government of India to commemorate 75 years of India Independence. Nagaland State AIDS Control Society has carried out the campaign in coordination with the concerned departments.
