Dimapur, Feb. 12 (EMN): Nagaland saw highest weekly Covid-19 deaths in four months after recording 13 fatalities last week ending February 11, while the sample positivity rate decreased from 13.2% to 6.5% during the same period.
The state’s Heath department updated in its weekly bulletin that 358 new cases were reported last week, compared to 570 in the week before, and 90% of these infections were detected in Dimapur and Kohima, while 81% was from ‘testing of symptomatic/ self-test category’.
While the state’s weekly sample positivity rate has dropped below 10% after four weeks, Kohima and Wokha still has positivity rate of more than 10%.
The department also stressed on the need to get vaccinated, especially the elderly and those with comorbidities as the pandemic “will continue” and considering the higher mortality rate among the unvaccinated.

“Out of 13 deaths, 11 had comorbidities (HIV-AIDS, diabetes, hypertension, TB, chronic liver disease and cancer). Seven had not received even a single dose of Covid-19 vaccine and no one had received the third dose which is recommended for elderly with comorbidities,” read the bulletin.
The update also informed that 29 new hospital admissions due to Covid were recorded during the week, compared to 38 in the previous week.
The total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the state till February 11 is 15.89 lakh, out of which 1.44 lakh were in the 15-18 years category.
