Nagaland reports 89 new Covid-19 cases, 104 recoveries

Dimapur, Jan. 18 (EMN): Nagaland recorded a single-day rise of 89 Covid-19 positive cases on Tuesday, taking the tally to 33, 053 while the active caseload declined to 454 following recuperation of 104 patients.

The state’s cumulative recoveries have increased to 30,624, while the death toll remained unchanged at 687 with no fresh fatalities reported in the last 24 hours.

According to an update from the department of Health and Family Welfare, 66 positive cases were reported in Dimapur, 12 in Kohima, one each in Mon and Mokokchung, four in Peren, two in Phek and three in Peren, while 85 patients in Dimapur, three in Kohima, two in Mokokchung, one in Peren and  13 in Tuensang recovered on Wednesday.

Of the 454 active cases in the state, 407 are asymptomatic, 45 mild, one moderate on oxygen and one severe on oxygen.

In terms of distribution of active cases, Dimapur has 373 infections, 57 in Kohima, eight in Peren, four each in Mokokchung and  Phek, three each in Zunheboto and Tuensang, and one each in Wokha and Mon. while Kiphire, and Longleng are currently Covid-free. 

India logs 2.38 new cases

India reported 2,38,018 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday taking the country’s total tally of Covid-19 cases to 3,76,18,271, which includes 8,891 cases of the Omicron variant, according to data from the Union Health Ministry.

The active cases increased to 17,36,628, while the death toll has climbed to 4,86,761 with 310 fresh fatalities, the data stated.

There has been an 8.31% increase in Omicron cases since Monday, the ministry said.

Experts said it is not possible to undertake genome sequencing of each and every sample but stressed that the current wave is largely being driven by the Omicron variant.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 14.43% while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 14.92%, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,53,94,882, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.29%.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 158.04 crore.
