Dimapur, Feb. 1 (EMN): Nagaland reported 54 cases of the Omicron variant of concern (VOC) and 19 Delta VOC on January 31. This was updated in a press release issued by Directorate of Health and Family Welfare government of Nagaland on Tuesday.
A total of 152 samples were sent for whole genome sequencing at Institute of BioResource and Sustainable development (IBSD) in Imphal on January 20.
It stated that a total of 73 samples returned positive, out of which 54 (74%) were Omicron variant of concern (VOC) and 19 (26%) were Delta VOC; while 79 samples were rejected.
Minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom also took to Twitter about the development.
“54 cases of Omicron variant have been confirmed from the State.
The Department has been keenly monitoring the situation in the state and assure that all possible measures are in place.
May we all continue to adhere to CAB and vaccinate when your turn comes,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Nagaland recorded a single-day rise of 120 fresh Covid-19 positive cases on Tuesday, taking the tally to 34,524 and active caseload to 894.
The state’s cumulative recoveries also increased to 31,475 with the recovery of 60 more patients in the last 24 hours.
The death toll remained unchanged at 732 with no fresh deaths reported on Tuesday.
According to data from the department of Health and Family Welfare, 98 positive cases were reported in Dimapur, 15 in Kohima, one each in Mokokchung and Mon, two in Tuensang and three in Wokha.
Meanwhile, 38 recoveries were reported from Dimapur, 15 in Kohima, four in Mokokchung and one each from Mon, Peren and Phek.
Out of the 894 active cases in the state, 738 are asymptomatic, 141 mild, 11 moderate on oxygen, one severe on oxygen and three on ICU ventilator.
In terms of distribution of active cases, Dimapur has 661 infections, 127 in Kohima, 36 in Tuensang, 31 in Mokokchung, nine each in Peren and Wokha, five in Phek, four each in Mon, Zunheboto, Kiphire and Longleng.
India reports 1, 67, 059 new cases
India reported 1,67,059 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday, taking the country’s total tally of cases to over 4.14 crore, according to data from the Union Health Ministry.
The death toll climbed to 4,96,242 with 1,192 fatalities reported during the 24-hour period, the data showed.
The active cases decreased to 17,43,059 with 2,54,076 patients having recovered in the last 24 hours.
With the administration of more than 61 lakh (61,45,767) vaccine doses, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage exceeded 166.68 Cr (1,66,68,48,204).
