Kohima, Oct. 8 (EMN): The second edition of the Chakhesang Open Wrestling Championship 2022 is scheduled to be held on November 4 simultaneously with the fourth edition of the ‘peace marathon’ and the first Open Under-14 Naga Wrestling Championship on November 3 2022, in Pfütsero town.
This was informed by the organisers, Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA), Kalos Society, and event managers, in a press briefing at Nagaland Olympic Association, Kohima on Saturday.
More than 10 wrestlers from four states outside Nagaland are expected to participate in the senior wrestling category. Three each from Karnataka and Jharkhand, two from Delhi, and three or four wrestlers from Manipur have confirmed participation in the upcoming open championship, CWA President Vekhozo Ringa said.
He added there is no entry fee for the wrestlers this time. The CWA also bears expenditures of wrestlers from outside the state, including accommodation, food, and transportation. While both senior and junior categories will be based on knockout, a second chance will be given to wrestlers from other states as requested, he added.
A prize pool of INR 4, 60,000 will be awarded to the winners including the losing quarterfinalist. The champion will walk away with INR 2, 00,000, second position with INR 100,000, third with INR 70,000, fourth with INR 50,000 and INR 10,000 for losing quarterfinalists.
Prominent wrestlers from the state including Kezhavizo Tevo, Venuzo Dawhuo, Pfusato Tetseo
Vekutho Soho etc., will vie for the championship title.

The organisers extended invitations to all wrestling fans across the state to come and give moral support to the wrestlers. The organising committee also informed that the wrestling meet is moved earlier to November 4, so the tickets already sold for November 11 will also be valid during the championship.
MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu is scheduled to attend the occasion. The event management had also informed the tickets for the chair are priced at INR 500 and gallery at INR 200.
The last for form submission date is scheduled for October 28. Participants can submit forms to any of the CWA officials, it was informed.
First Open Under-14 Naga Wrestling Championship from Nov. 3
Coinciding with the event, the first Open Under-14 Naga Wrestling Championship will be held at 11 am onwards on November 3. The seats will be limited to 32 wrestlers on first come first basis. Participants must be born on or after November 3, 2008, it informed. Spectators will have to pay INR 50 as entry ticket.
‘The introduction of U-14 age group is to encourage wrestling at young age by providing platform at bigger stage and to let them gain confidence and experience’, CWA said.
Meanwhile, for the fourth edition of ‘Peace marathon’, both male and female participants will run a total of 21 km and 15 km respectively on Nov. 3 (morning hour). The starting point is from Porba and Sakraba village and will culminate at Pfütsero Sports complex, which will be followed by prize distribution.
Cash prizes for both men and women is categorised as INR 15,000 each for first positions, INR 10,000 each for second, INR 7000 each for third, INR 5000 each for fourth and INR 3000 each for fifth and consolation prizes of INR 1000 each for 10 men and 10 women. The organiser will provide refreshments for all the participants and the volunteers and T-shirts will be provided to all the participants besides the transportation.
Medical assistance will be looked after by Mero's Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, Pfutsero while an ambulance will be provided by the Kalos Society. Procedures for both offline and online registrations will be updated soon.
The event is being organised by the Kalos Society on the theme ‘rhythm of health’. While online forms will be made available after a week, the last date for submission of forms is scheduled on October 31. The registration fee is INR 250.
