Kohima, May 25 (EMN): Nagaland has reported its first Covid-19 case after three stranded citizens, who returned from Chennai (Shramik Express) recently, were tested positive for the virus on Monday morning.

Confirming this at a press conference in Kohima, Principal Health Secretary Menukhol John said that three persons, one female and two male, all returnees from the first train from Chennai, were tested positive at the biosafety-3 (BSL-3) laboratory in Kohima on May 25.

The three positive cases -- two from Dimapur and one from Kohima -- have been kept in isolation and and under observation at their respective Covid-19 hospitals -- District Hospital Dimapur and Ayushman, Chedema. Two of them were symptomatic while the other one is asymptomatic. All of them are showing mild symptoms, according to health officials.

"Regardless of the fact that we have three positive cases, our medical teams are trying the best we can. Our appeal is, do not stigmatise the patients and be supportive of the health workers,” he requested.

Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio and minister for Health and Family Welfare S Pangnyu Phom also took to social media to update the latest development.
