Nagaland Police reported 677 crime cases in January–June 2025, including theft, extortion, NDPS violations, and road fatalities.

KOHIMA, SEP. 19 (EMN) — Nagaland Police recorded a total of 677 crime cases during the period from January to June 2025, comprising 480 cases under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 197 cases under Special and Local Laws (SLL).
According to data from the police department, theft registered the highest incidence under IPC with 161 cases, followed by criminal trespass and burglary with 80 cases. Extortion accounted for 38 cases, while 35 cases were reported under criminal breach of trust and 27 under cheating. Other registered cases included 18 of kidnapping and abduction, 14 cases of attempted murder, 8 of murder, and 1 case each of rape, human trafficking and counterfeit currency.

Cases under SLL were dominated by offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which accounted for 92 cases in the first half of the year. This was followed by 50 cases under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 23 under the Arms Act, 13 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and 10 under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR). Smaller numbers were also recorded under the Information Technology Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, among others.
The data further showed that road accidents in the state during the same period resulted in 12 fatalities and 4 non-fatal incidents.
