Nagaland records 261 new Covid-19 cases including 197 from Dimapur

After a brief downward trend in the number of daily Covid-19 detections in Nagaland, the cases have shot up in the past two days even as 261 fresh cases were reported on Thursday. Dimapur alone accounted for 197 of these.

On Wednesday, September 9, the state had recorded 130 new cases. These are the highest daily detections since the relaxation of most restrictions under ‘Unlock 4’ guidelines.

As of Thursday, the total number of cases recorded in Nagaland was 4636.

“261 new cases of Covid-19 have been detected out of 741 samples tested. 197 in Dimapur, 59 in Kohima and 5 in Mokokchung. Necessary Contact tracing have been activated,” the minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom tweeted on Thursday.

According to information provided by the Health department the state has 834 active Covid-19 cases currently. So far, it has recorded 3781 recoveries and eight deaths out of which five are still under investigation.

Armed forces continue to contribute the highest number of cases with 2109 (45%) till date. It is followed by returnees with 1332 cases, 882 among traced contacts, and 313 frontline workers.

Out of the 197 cases detected in Dimapur on Thursday, 193 were armed forces personnel, according to Health department data.
