Dimapur, Jan. 24 (EMN): Nagaland state has been recognised with an award among the top five states/union territories for excellent performance in implementing the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme, in the state category.
It has been recognised for ‘over all support, guidance, monitoring and achieving the targets of BBBP.’ Updates on Thursday stated that the recognition was given during a National Girl Child Day programme on January 24, at New Delhi.
This is the first time that states and union territories are being awarded for good performance in said scheme. The award was given by the minister of Women and Child Development, Maneka Gandhi and was received by Sarah R Ritse, secretary of the Social Welfare department of Nagaland.
Speaking during the occasion from New Delhi, Ritse said, “I am proud of the team work that the State Resource Centre for Women as the implementing agency for BBBP under the department of Social Welfare has done. It gives me immense pleasure and pride to receive this award on behalf of the state and on behalf of the women and girl child.’
Also, the district administration of Wokha has also been awarded, among 25 districts, for ‘good performance’ in BBBP in the category “Effective Community Engagement.
Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, the deputy commissioner of Wokha, received the award on behalf of the district. Erenbeni P Lotha, one of the local champions for BBBP from Wokha district was invited to speak about her experience as a ‘local champion,’ along with three other local champions from across the country, the updates stated.
