Dimapur, Dec. 12 (EMN): A government meeting presided over by the commissioner-secretary for Industries & Commerce, Lithrongla G Chishi, was conducted on Dec. 11 to discuss ‘logical preparation and work distribution among the government departments in regard to the UN Global Compact Network India (GCNI). The event is to be held in Dimapur at the Niathu Resort, from Dec. 20 to the 21st.
The chief minister of Nagaland will be attending the inaugural programme where the UN’s country director is also expected to attend. The inaugural programme will be followed by a session with policy makers and a cultural programme, updates from the DIPR stated on Wednesday.
The second day of the event will be a full-day session where about 30 resource persons are expected to attend as speakers; and experts from across the country including a few international speakers, the updates stated.
Commissioner-secretary Lithrongla G Chishi said in her address to the officers that the department should be prepared with a ‘write-up, data, statistics about crops products etc.,’ according to the DIPR. She urged the departments to avail the opportunity “which is in the offing for any genuine projection and potential investment.”
The officer was also quoted by the DIPR as having mentioned a few departments such as the Tourism, Agriculture departments, and entrepreneurs in handlooms and handicrafts under ‘not to miss the chance for potential investment.’
“In this event, people are coming wanting to do business in the Northeast, they are critical decision makers who helps create the network,” the DIPR stated.
Further, Chishi lamented that there were limitations in the government departments when it comes to ‘data collection which could sometimes hamper further development of the department.’ However, referring to the medicinal and aromatic research in Ruzaphema, which is a 10 crore project likely to be inaugurated in January 2019, she said that the state has its strength in natural resources.
The commissioner-secretary said that all the heads of the departments should be there at the summit with their project officers.
Former chief secretary of Nagaland, Alemtemshi Jamir, also attended the meeting. He said that a medical college, better health care establishment and services such as Ayush ‘can be made’ with investment, the DIPR stated.
The members in the meeting also discussed committees that had been assigned for the programme at Dimapur including matters about a control room, among others, which needed to be set up and made operational by Dec. 18. Accordingly, various departments have been assigned work, the updates stated.
