DIMAPUR — Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday informed that Nagaland ranks 26th in State Gross Domestic Product (SGDP) among the 28 states of India.
The chief minister was replying to an unstarred question raised by MLA Kuzholuzo Neinu during the ongoing second session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Rio said that the present status of SGDP for the financial year 2021-22 (quick estimates) is INR 20,315 crore and SGDP (advance estimate) for the financial year 2022-23 is INR 22,111 crore.
He said the growth rate of SGDP for FY 2021-22 is 9.09%, FY 2022-23 is 8.84%, and the per capita income for FY 2021-22 is INR 1,42,363.
When asked what measures the state government is taking to improve the SDGP, Rio replied that to improve the growth potential of all sectors of the economy, the state capital outlay on development has been increased from INR 2616.66 crore in 2021-22 to INR 3029.63 crore in 2022-23.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]To facilitate the development of entrepreneurship in the state, the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI) and Start-up Nagaland schemes have been set up to infuse resources in the economy for value addition, he said.
The chief minister also mentioned that to provide infrastructural development and bridge regional disparity, the Underdeveloped Areas Programme (UDAP) is being implemented specifically in the road sector, social and infrastructure sector and human resources development.
Multi-training centres established in Kohima and Dimapur, and the establishment of tourist trekking and base camp at Mt. Saramati, Thanamir, Kiphire district, are some other key measures to improve SGDP, Rio added.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton said that the Registry of Intelligence Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) exercise is an ongoing process and further measures for giving effect to its objectives, and the streamlining and strengthening of the mode of issuance of indigenous inhabitants certificates are under consideration of the government. The deputy CM was responding to an unstarred question by MLA Kuzholuzo Neinu on the status of RIIN.
Minister of PHED, Jacob Zhimomi, said that the water supply project (Zarü project), which is an augmentation of water supply to Kohima town, is presently not functioning regularly due to extensive damage to the variable frequency drive (VFD) at the first-stage pumping station.
He was replying to an unstarred question raised by MLA Kevipodi Sophie during the assembly session.
He also replied that the total cost of the project is INR 46.74 crore. When asked if there is any amount left for maintenance, Zhimomi replied that the maintenance fund is not provided within the approved cost of the project, and the department has to meet the operation and maintenance expenditure under the annual non-development (non-plan) fund.
