Dimapur, Dec. 19: Nagaland Public Rights Awareness and Action Forum (NPRAAF) has appealed to the State government not to withhold or affect the BPL, AAY distribution system in pretext of the recent episode between the ACAUT and the department stating public should not be allowed to suffer, while it also urged to immediately release the welfare institution and SC/ST/OBC Hostel Schemes under public distribution schemes.
While expressing equal concern on PDS of all schemes by Government of India, NPRAAF said it has been vociferously fighting for fairness in public distribution system to which the department has addressed public grievances to some extent. It said public are now getting their fair share of kerosene, wheat, rice, sugar etc. though there are still issues to be addressed.
NPRAAF also appreciated the department for the pragmatic response to its demands on PDS issue including cancellation of backdoor appointments and subsequent requisition to NPSC/Departmental board for fair open competition which was given in written by the government.
NPRAAF felt that PDS issue cannot be settled neither by raiding and sealing the godown nor by arresting the ACAUT activists but through understanding. It said the malady of the issue must be discussed across the table by concerned parties for remedial measures in the greater interest of all stakeholders and the government.
NPRAAF opined it will be premature to held stockists alone accountable for the mess till the time the truth of the whole episode of PDS fiasco is unearthed by an independent inquiry body. NPRAAF further reassured that it will not rest till justice in the PDS is logically delivered.
